Gene is a Certified Public Accountant. He earned an undergraduate degree at Northwestern University in accounting and completed graduate studies at Roosevelt University majoring in Taxation.

He is a former partner with Clifton Gunderson L.L.P., the 12th largest CPA and consulting firm in the U.S. While at Clifton Gunderson from 1983 to 1997, he served as the group leader and coordinator of the Corporate Finance Specialty Services Group. During the same period, he was also the managing partner of the Chicago offices practice. Prior to joining MASI, he was affiliated with a smaller investment-banking firm.

Gaining a unique global perspective in the process, he has served as a member of global board of directors and as North American Regional Chairman for Nexia International, a global network of accounting and consulting firms operating from 250 offices in 79 countries.

Gene has served as chairman of several American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Illinois CPA Society (ICPAS) committees including past Chairman of the National MAS training programs at Ohio State University. He has been a contributing editor for the Journal of Accountancy and a reviewer for an AICPA course on valuation of small business. He is a frequent presenter for the AICPA, ICPAS and other professional organizations on subjects of mergers and acquisitions, business valuation, corporate finance and operational auditing. Gene’s experiences include: divestitures and acquisition of small and medium-sized businesses; business valuation; litigation support; employee stock ownership plans; bankruptcy and serving as an expert witness.

Currently he serves the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) on the membership committee of the Chicago ACG chapter and as a board member of the South Florida chapter. A retired military officer, Gene served 22 years active and inactive military duty. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Illinois CPA Society (ICPAS) and the International Association of Financial Planners.
